Who Was The Sexiest Catwoman In Film & Television?

There's no doubt that Catwoman is one of the most popular DC characters and Batman villains to ever hit the pages of comic book history. There's also no doubt that she is one of the sexiest as well, so sexy that Batman has a hard time not falling for her sexy charms.

Now, with the new Batman: The Dark Knight Rises coming to theaters soon and it's been known for quite some time that Anne Hathaway will play Catwoman in the film, it can be said that she has a lot to live up in terms of the other wonderful and sexy ladies who've donned that catsuit and played the character.

This hub is a look back on all the past ladies who've stepped into the Catwoman role on both television and in the movies. It's also my tribute to them.

Which one was, indeed, the sexiest in terms of costume outfit, capturing the character's alluring seductive qualities, and whom just looked the damn best in that get up?

Since we've yet to have a glimpse of Anne Hathway in action as the sultry Catwoman, she won't be on this list.

Hey, I was too young to see the Batman television series when it first aired in 1966 to March 14, 1968, but there was a heck of a lot of reruns when I was a little pepper, and I was sure to catch every episode.

What would a Catwoman list be without the original Catwoman - Julie Newmar! Yes, she is the first actress to ever don the famous catsuit, and played the role for the 1st two seasons of the famous Batman television series. No matter what era, that outfit is just sexy and very few wear it better than Julie Newmar.

Newmar actually designed and constructed the outfit herself. The costume was made of black Lurex fabric. One of the three Catwoman costumes tailored for Julie Newmar is part of the collection of the Smithsonian Institution.

I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that a lot of guys of all ages were..uh hum...smitten by Julie Newmar and her portrayal of one of comics most alluring female characters! To me, Julie Newmar as Catwoman has to be one of the most absolute sexiest versions ever portrayed on film. There would only be two ladies to play the role of the 1966 Catwoman.

However, even though Julie Newmar was amazingly sexy as Catwoman, was she the sexiest? I don't know. She's got a lot of tough competition here as you'll find out below.

The second beauty to don the Catwoman outfit on screen was Lee Meriwether. When producers of the Batman television show realized that Julie Newmar would be unable to return to the role due to other commitments, they cast Lee Meriwether, to take up the mantle.

As I said earlier that not too many can look good in Julie Newmar's Catwoman costume, Lee Meriwether was one of those few. Would you expect the Miss America winner not to?

However, her only performance as Catwoman was in the 1966 Batman and Robin tie-in movie to the television series. Meriwether is the second actress to play the 1966 Catwoman before the end of that year. She never did play Catwoman in the T.V. series, but she did a spectacular job for the movie.

There's no doubt that Meriwether added to the character a more seductive attitude and sexier voice. Many fans believe that Meriwether was definitely more sexy than Julie Newmar as Catwoman, but I think that's quite debatable.

I do have to say that her portrayal of Catwoman was a bit more villainous and sultry than Newmar's performance. The sexiest Catwoman, however? I don't know about that. We shall see! There's still a lot more lovely vixens who've stepped into the character's heels.

Halle Berry wasn't the first woman with African American ancestry to play the villainous feline. Although she is not a 1966 Catwoman, Eartha Kitt was the third to ever step into the role on the third season of the Batman T.V. series in 1967.

Extremely sultry, Kitt brought a sensual moxie to the role, taking Catwoman even further as a feline femme fatale. What I remember that was memorable to her portrayal was how she used speech to provide an extremely sexy approach to the character. She prolonged the rolling "r" in words as well prolonged the "s". This was a great effect.

I don't think anyone ever noticed her speech had great pacing and timing in the role. This added even more sensuality and sexiness to the role. Eartha Kitt definitely wore the costume purr-fectly, but there were so many other quirks that made her performance timelessly sexy.

Many fans argue that Eartha Kitt is the best Catwoman out of Julie Newmar and Lee Meriwether, because she seemed to put more effort into the role. Maybe she is the best or maybe she isn't. All I know is that she was a damn sexy Catwoman!

However, there's still two more to go!

In the sequel to Tim Burton's 1989 Batman movie Batman Returns, the character hits the silver screen for the very first time in a big budget movie with Michelle Pfeiffer as the Catwoman. I remember most comic fan boys getting all excited and panting that Michelle was going to play this character.

I have to admit that the version of Catwoman that was written for her is probably the one that strays quite a bit from the comic. The Batman Returns Catwoman was more of a psycho, and the character in the comic is just a sexy and sultry jewelery thief. Sexy and sultry psycho? Sexy and sultry thief?

Even her costume is some sort of stitched up monstrosity. Yes, Michelle was sexy in it, but it's not one of my favorite costumes for the character.

Did she portray Catwoman as sultry, seductive and sexy. Yep, she absolutely did. You can tell she definitely pushed that line far more than the previous actresses to play the role, but that also had to do with the times. Things were a lot more censored back then.

Is Michelle the sexiest Catwoman?

Okay put aside the fact that this movie was terrible. The question is was Halle Berry a sexy Catwoman, and is she the sexiest?

The costume definitely went the rock n' roll and the "if you got it, flaunt it" motif. This leather pants has strategically placed rips to show just enough flesh, a leather bra, a cowl, and some leather gloves.

The more modern approach to the costume definitely screams sexy and Halle Berry wears to perfection. Going back to the character's roots of just being a cunning jewelery thief, Halle Berry definitely captures sultry and seductive in a non psychotic way.

She definitely let those hips sway a lot more in her performance, a long with more sensuous poses than in previous performances of the character. Is she the sexiest Catwoman, though?

With so many gorgeous actresses who've stepped into the role as Catwoman, it's definitely a tough decision. Nevertheless, only one can reign supreme in capturing the ultimate allure, sensuality, charm, attitude and sexiness that the character has had throughout so many years.

After The Dark Knight Rises movie comes out can we truly see if Anne Hathaway stacks up to these ladies as the ultimate "Bad Girl" that Batman, as well as us, just can't seem to get enough of.
